All four suspects in fatal shooting arrested


The Camden Police Department has arrested four suspects in connection with a shooting that last week left one minor dead and another injured.

Dquaveus Benton, 18, has been charged with second-degree murder, he other three suspects are juveniles and their names have not been released.

Camden Police responded to shots fired on Cleveland Avenue and Chestnut Street around 3:12 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, where they found one victim dead, with a gunshot wound in his chest, and a second victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the foot; the second victimw as treated at the Ouachita County Medical Center.

Witnesses reported seeing the two victims walking home from school when a truck with four males stopped, began a fight with the victims and then left immedately after gunshots were fired, according to the CPD.

Camden Fairview School District Superintendent Johnny Embry later sent out a press release confirming that the two victims were CFHS students. The district planned to make mental health care resources available to students in the aftermath of the fatal shooting, according to the release.

The Uvalde Foundation for Kids, an organization formed in response the the May 2022 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, also announced that it had opened a 24 hour peer support line and online chat center for students needing trauma support.
