Camden man charged with attempted capital murder

Details have emerged about an April shooting that left one woman in critical condition.

Michael Burks, 41, of Camden has been charged with attempted capital murder, possession of instrument of a crime, obstructing governmental operations and tampering with physical evidence.

Burks is currently housed in Ouachita County Detention Center.

The victim is described as a 46 year old female and was also, according to witnesses, Burks's cousin.

According to a report, on April 22 at 4:03 a.m. officers responded to Dunning Street on a report of a woman bleeding from her throat.

Upon arrival, officers observed the woman with blood coming from her neck and a gunshot wound to her head.

The victim was transported to Ouachita County Medical Center.

A witness stated that a recliner, which officers later found covered in blood in a ravine, had been moved from the residence. He also stated that when he returned home, he found the woman shot in a bedroom of his residence.

A separate witness said that Burks owed the victim money.
