The Ouachita County Quorum Court approved the purchase of a new roll off truck for the county and repairs on an HVAC unit for the Ouachita County Detention Center and authorized funds for the general upkeep of the Ouachita County Health Unit at Tuesday night's meeting.

Justices of the Peace unanimously approved the purchase of a 2024 Western Roll Off vehicle that transports open-topped waste containers (dumpsters) to the local landfill or recycling center, for $224,300 with a balloon payment of $135,000.

Ouachita County Judge Robert McAdoo stated, "We have eight roll-offs, and we are using three of them at the recycle center and we have five that we rent out to county residents for a 15-day period at $400 flat rate."

"It usually saves our residents about a hundred $150 when they have a project that needs a roll off," he added.

McAdoo said that ultimately he'd like to have 10 county-owned roll offs.

Justices also unanimously approved the use of $7,500 from the jail operating budget to repair an HVAC unit in the dispatch area.

McAdoo stated that repairs could prolong the life of the HVAC unit by six to seven years.

Regarding the Health Unit, McAdoo stated, "Our health department filed for a state grant of $243,000. The grant is for doing some work on our facility down there as far as landscape, roof, interior, HVAC and new generator."

JPs unanimously approved $9,470 from the general county fund, county health unit budget.

"This is the architect fee. So this is the first bill we're gonna have to pay. This is one where we pay it then we get reimbursed. It's one of those kind of grants," McAdoo said.
