One of the biggest goals for the city before the start of Memorial Day was to get the pool and splash pad at Carnes Park open to the public. On Saturday, residents of Camden were able to enjoy the pool and the splash pad at Carnes Park for the first time this year.

The city had the goal to have the pool open by Saturday, May 27, since Spring, with it needing to be drained and cleaned by the city's Public Works and the Fire Department. The pool has a day charge for residents to use, but this year, the pool pass includes a month and a season charge for unlimited usage, as explained by Mayor Charolette Young. The splash pad is free for the children to play in.

The city is still looking for more certifiable lifeguards to keep the pool and it's residents safe.

This is another activity established by the city of Camden to utilize more activities for the residents. The pool will also be used to keep local swim teams from constantly having to go to El Dorado or Texarkana to practice for swim meets.
